What I can give

Five and a half years ago, when my husband and I were just engaged, he sent me this email:

I liked this quote. It was on the side of a Starbucks cup I saw today. I think it’s really good and I wanted to save it and share it with you.

“The day my son was born, I simultaneously died and was reborn. Every day before that day, my life had been about me and what I wanted the world to give me. Every day since, my life necessarily has been about what I can give to someone else. And that, I think, is why the world needs more children – and more parents.”

Love you.

I stumbled upon this email today while reading through old love letters from our first years dating — many I had forgotten about. And though it was sent at a time when I was more focused on planning a wedding than growing a family, it delighted me today — 5 years later, 3 children richer, and a thousandfold more purposeful.

    Lauren,
You do such a great job in expressing yourself through written words and supported with such exquisite photos which help bring the meaning home. I am also wondering if you should consider another valuable tool that I know you possess………….your voice! How about trying an audio blog post sometime.? (or perhaps you already have and I missed it.)
