The one who made me a mother

Dear little one,

You turn three tomorrow. A “big boy” you certainly are (even if you’re still in diapers).

My sweet, sweet, boy — you made me a mother. And on that day, the world forever changed.

Like the earth meeting the sun for the first time, you lit up our lives — and you continue to do so every day, in every way.

As you learn, I learn.

As you grow, I grow.

And as you discover a new world with wide, curious eyes, I am filled with hopes and big dreams for my big, big boy — who will always be my baby.

I hope that you always notice the birds in the sky and the bugs on the ground and the giggles from your sister.

I hope that you always share your opinions, say yes! with enthusiasm — and no when it counts.

I hope that you always find that the best things in life are free: the dirt on the earth, the songs in your heart, the hugs from your mama.

I hope that you always know how special you are — and that, as one of our favorite books reads,

“On the night you were born, the moon shone with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered, ‘Life will never be the same.’ Because there had never been anyone like you… ever in the world.”

To the one who made me a mother, tomorrow we will celebrate the day you were born — our sweet baby, our big boy, our big brother, our one and only you.

Thanks for such beautiful words. I have intended to comment for some time. Your blog came into my life, when I found myself 42 and pregnant. I now have a lovely little girl, who doesn’t sleep, but I try to treasure these moments. Your bloog has encouraged me to appreciate my life as a mom just a little bit more. Thanks for encouraging and sharing. I am so happy for your family, a sister for Kate. I love my sister dearly, as well as my brother, but it’s comforting for a girl to have a sister. Take care, Mary
