And the nominees are

I started this Etsy Besties contest for a couple of reasons.

One, I wanted to find some hidden gems I didn’t know about. I love finding new special little places where I can find the perfect gift/decoration/piece of inspiration.

And two — and most importantly — because I love creativity.

I love people who pursue it, who aren’t afraid to try it, who believe in it, who know that creativity is not just about being good at some sort of art — but about using the gifts God gave you to make the world better: words, songs, poems, a family, a story, a garden, a prayer.

One of the first posts I ever wrote on this blog was called, “The practice of creativity.” And in it, I said:

We may not all be eloquent wordsmiths or master painters. We may not all be able to write beautiful symphonies or choreograph elaborate theater productions. But in our own way, woven deeply into our unique talents, we were all given the innate ability to create something profound – something that, small or big, could change the world.

I like the courage and passion of the shop owners I’ve discovered on Etsy. I like that a stay-at-home-mama is taking her sewing hobby to the next level. That a craftsman Dad is making wooden toys in his garage. And that creative souls everywhere have a platform to do what they love — and hey, maybe make a living doing it.

The polls open up on Monday where we’ll be able to vote for the “Bestie” in each category. But really — they’re all great. Readers have nominated them because their creations made a 3-year-old smile, a family portrait session successful, a grandmother cry happy tears.

Please check them out, support them, vote for them on Monday — and mostly, be inspired by them. We’re all creative souls. We all have a gift to give the world.

If there’s a store you’d like to nominate, there’s still time. Just comment here!
